Theme: Destiny and process of fulfilling it
What is Destiny?
Destiny according to the English dictionary and some schools of taught is been described as follows:
• An event (or a course of events) that will inevitably happen in the future.
• An ultimate agency that predetermines the course of events i.e. destiny refers to a predetermined course of events; see Joseph’s case in the bible. As a result, we are helpless in the face of destiny. As genuine children of God, we must be rest assured that things can never go wrong as per your life affairs in HIS hands i.e., when God is directing your destiny, things can’t go wrong!
• Destiny is the part of our life as human beings that we have no control over! Looking at certain events like: Our birth, marriage, major events and challenges, death and etc. Who among us here now can expressly summarise what will happen to him or her between now and the next one-month? I am sure no body can accurately do that. The only super and supreme being who can do that is GOD, THE ALMIGHTY who knows the end from the beginning. See Isaiah 46:10.
• Destiny keeps a unique place in every life; it is the determinant of how life will go; yet it cannot be pre-tested in the laboratory to ascertain its authenticity. As a result, it is only faith in God Almighty that can drive it safely from the beginning to the end.
• Finally, Destiny is seen as a means to fulfilment and satisfaction when it is been pursued and achieved.
Looking at this subject matter uniquely from God’s perspective:
It must be known that, from the beginning of creation, The Almighty God has got in HIS mind “The idea of creating human beings to fulfil destines. See Adam, God created him to till the ground and look after God’s garden – Genesis 2:7-8, 15.
Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11 that “For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
On the basis of our understanding of this scripture, God is not mentioning that the destiny He has for you to fulfil is disaster upon disaster; God is faithful to His words, why do you often say, “that is the way God wants it for you, whenever disaster struck?” God’s word is clear about this, He emphatically declared in that Jeremiah 29:11 “…my plans for you are good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Please STOP giving Satan foot hole to torment your life, Ecclesiastes 10:8 says, “When you dig a well, you may fall in. When you demolish an old wall, you could be bitten by a snake.” I hope you know what this means!
Having spoken like this, that doesn’t mean you will not face persecutions and obstacles in life, as you are on the journey of fulfilling your destiny i.e. the purpose of God for your life. Remember what bible says in Romans 8:28 – 29a “And we know that God causes every thing to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to HIS purpose for them. V29a. For God knew HIS people in advance, and HE chose them to become like HIS Son…” In the light of this, whatever you are passing through is part of God’s plan to bringing you to your promise land like Joseph (fulfilment of your destiny) provided what you are passing through is not orchestrated by the desire of your flesh. David has to pay the price for sleeping with Bathsheba and killing her husband.
These important facts must be known about destiny and its fulfilment:
• Destiny can either be fulfilled or aborted. E.g. Noah – Genesis 6:9; Abraham – Genesis 22: 15-18; Joseph – Genesis 41:39-44; / Babies aborted; King Saul – 1 Samuel 15:22-23; Eli and his children – 1 Samuel 2:27-31. Please don’t joke with your life, “For you have been created to fulfil destiny. As a result, discover it and run with it.” You may do many things to survive in life, but you can only do one thing to fulfil destiny, so passionately search for it. See Jeremiah 1:4-10.
• Wherever God wants you to get to in life, you will surely get there whether your enemies like it or not, provided you don’t turn back from serving THE ALMIGHTY GOD through HIS SON – JESUS CHRIST, who died for the sins of the whole world.
• “Life is a journey” And what makes journey interesting is the different characteristic of events that do take place along the line!
• Journey of destiny means having in mind where you are going even before starting the journey.
• Life without focus i.e. destiny always ends in crisis. See Hosea 4:6.
• The purpose of God in everything HE does is to bring us from starting point to completion stage and this process entails a lot of things in fact, it is called “Process of fulfilling destiny!” See the Israelites, God took them from Egypt to promise land. This is a journey of destiny. You and me are in this kind of journey too i.e. we have been taken from darkness unto light, from being baby in the knowledge of God’s word to being matured and operating in maturity – 1 Peter 2:9; 1 Peter 2:2-3; Ephesians 4:11-16.
Stop running from pillar to pole with view of looking for success, when you have been made to win, reign, rule, have dominion and fulfil unique and peculiar destiny.
These three things must be real in your life if you want to fulfil destiny being a child of God: (1) Willingness – Isaiah 1:19; (2) Readiness – 2 Corinthians 8:11; (3) Holiness – 1 Peter 1:15-16, Psalm 24:3-6.
Prayer:
God, please open my eyes today to see the purpose you have created me for and give me the empowerment to fulfil it. Thank you LORD for answering my prayer, amen!
Hymn for you to sing.
HYMN: TRUST AND OBEY!
When we walk with the LORD
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey!
Chorus: Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear,
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey!
Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay:
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey!
But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favour He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for those who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey!
